In many stories, ostudele refers to a yearly communal storytelling rite in the fictional archipelago of Lysara. The term is presented as derived from the Lysari language, combining ostu meaning “story” and dele meaning “gathering.” The ceremony centers on a communal hearth called the Ostudele Fire, around which participants gather in a prescribed order.

During ostudele, a rotating cast of elders, junior storytellers, and audience members perform interconnected narratives. Tales encode communal laws, historical events, moral exempla, and genealogies. The performance blends oration, call-and-response, choral singing, and symbolic gestures using carved tokens and lanterns. The rite emphasizes listening, memory, and the transmission of knowledge to younger generations, and often includes a public vow or oath that binds participants to communal obligations.
