Ostsillaatoritel, often translated as oscillators, are electronic circuits or devices that produce a repetitive, oscillating electronic signal, typically a sine wave, square wave, or triangle wave. These signals are fundamental to many electronic applications. Oscillators work by using a feedback mechanism. An amplifier boosts a signal, and a portion of this amplified signal is fed back to the input. This feedback loop, combined with frequency-determining components like inductors and capacitors (in LC oscillators) or resistors and capacitors (in RC oscillators), creates a self-sustaining oscillation at a specific frequency.

The frequency of oscillation is primarily determined by the values of these passive components. Different types of oscillators exist, each suited for specific applications. Crystal oscillators, for example, utilize the piezoelectric properties of a quartz crystal to achieve very high frequency stability and accuracy, making them ideal for clocks and communication systems. Voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) can have their output frequency altered by an input voltage, a key component in frequency modulation and synthesizers.

Oscillators are crucial components in a vast array of electronic devices. They are used in radio transmitters and receivers to generate carrier and intermediate frequencies, in computers to provide clock signals that synchronize operations, in audio synthesizers to create musical tones, and in test equipment for generating signals. The ability to generate predictable and stable frequencies is what makes oscillators indispensable in modern electronics.
