Osilloskoopide are measurement instruments used to visualize electrical signals as a function of time. In English, they are known as oscilloscopes. They display voltage on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis, allowing users to observe waveform shapes, amplitudes, frequencies, and timing relationships of signals. This makes it possible to diagnose circuit behavior, compare signals, and verify design specifications.

Historically, oscilloscopes started as analog devices based on cathode-ray tubes. Today, most osilloskoopide are digital or mixed-signal instruments. Digital storage oscilloscopes capture sampled data, convert it into digital signals, and render waveforms on a display, often with features such as waveform storage, measurement analytics, and advanced triggering.

Types include analog oscilloscopes, digital storage oscilloscopes (DSOs), and mixed-signal oscilloscopes (MSOs) that combine analog channels with digital processing. Portable handheld models are also common for field work. Core specifications cover bandwidth (how fast signals can be accurately displayed), sample rate (how many data points are captured per second), memory depth, the number of channels, vertical sensitivity, and horizontal timebase. Probe attenuation (such as 1x or 10x) affects input range and signal loading.

Key features often include triggering options to stabilize irregular waveforms, cursors and automatic measurements (such as peak-to-peak voltage, frequency, rise time, and duty cycle), and math operations or FFT for spectral analysis.
