In standard usage, the concept is more commonly described as oppsett tid (setup time) or oppsettstid. The triple-t spelling, oppsetttid, appears as a variant in online texts and informal writing, but it is not widely established in formal terminology. The core idea is the same: it is the period of preparation before productive work can begin.

In practice, oppsetttid encompasses activities such as changing tools, adjusting settings, loading materials, programming, aligning equipment, and performing safety checks. It is a component of cycle time and can significantly influence throughput, lead times, and inventory levels.
