Opiskelijat (singular: opiskelija) is Finnish for "students." The term denotes people enrolled in a formal educational program, from secondary education to higher education and vocational training. In everyday usage, it covers anyone actively pursuing coursework, exams, or a degree.

In Finland, higher education is provided by two main sectors: universities (yliopistot) and universities of applied sciences (ammattikorkeakoulut). Degree programs lead to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Many programs are offered in Finnish, Swedish, or English. Student status typically provides access to campus services and student organizations; full-time study is common but part-time study is possible in some programs.

Student life and representation: Students are represented by student unions (opiskelijakunta) at each institution, which negotiate welfare, housing, and other benefits and organize cultural and academic activities. Campuses provide libraries, cafeterias, housing services, counseling, and career centers. Financial support for students in Finland is often provided by Kela in the form of study grants and housing supplements to eligible students; international students may have different arrangements. Students may combine studies with part-time work and participate in exchange programs.

Role and diversity: Opiskelijat contribute to research, teaching as assistants, and university governance through student councils; many pursue internships and practical training as part of their programs. The term thus encompasses a diverse group within the Finnish education system.
