openlinked

OpenLinked is an open-source framework and ecosystem for publishing, interlinking, and consuming structured data on the web. It provides a common set of data models, protocols, and tooling designed to make linked data easier to produce, discover, and reuse. The project emphasizes openness, interoperability, and provenance, with governance driven by a community of contributors and organizations.

The architecture centers on modeling data in RDF and JSON-LD, with multiple serialization formats such as Turtle and JSON-LD. Data sets are published through interoperable interfaces, including SPARQL endpoints, Linked Data Fragments, and RESTful APIs, enabling both rich querying and lightweight access. A key component is the OpenLinked Registry, a catalog that indexes published datasets and their vocabularies, provenance, and licensing to support discovery and reuse. Publishers can use OpenLinked Studio to map relational data or other sources to RDF and publish them with standard licenses.

Quality and interoperability are supported by validators, data quality checks, and guidance on provenance through standard vocabularies like PROV-O and Dublin Core. OpenLinked also promotes open licenses (for example CC0 or CC-BY) to ensure reuse, while privacy and compliance considerations are integrated into data publishing workflows.

In development since the early 2020s, the project has grown through community contributions, institutional partnerships, and participation in linked data standardization efforts. It is used by research initiatives, government portals, and NGOs seeking to publish and integrate diverse data sources in a semantically linked form.
