Onpremiseympäristöjä, often translated as "on-premises environments" in English, refers to computing infrastructure and software that is physically located and managed within an organization's own facilities. This stands in contrast to cloud computing, where resources are hosted and managed by a third-party provider and accessed over the internet. In an on-premises setup, an organization purchases, installs, and maintains its own servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and software licenses.

Key characteristics of on-premises environments include direct control over hardware and software, enhanced data security and privacy as data resides within the organization's physical boundaries, and the ability to customize the infrastructure to specific needs. However, this model also entails significant upfront capital expenditure for hardware and ongoing operational costs for maintenance, power, cooling, and IT staff. Furthermore, scaling resources up or down can be a slower and more complex process compared to cloud solutions. Organizations typically choose on-premises solutions when strict regulatory compliance, unique security requirements, or a desire for complete control over their IT assets are paramount.
