The technique involves using a needle and thread to sew small, evenly spaced stitches along the edge of fabric, typically with a straight or slightly angled needle. Ompeleiden can be done by hand or with a sewing machine using a special ompeilnaald (ompeiling needle), which has a blunt tip and a large eye to accommodate thick thread.
