OMD stands for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, a British electronic music band formed in 1978 on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. The group was founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, who remained the core members and primary songwriters through a number of lineup changes. OMD is widely regarded as a pioneer of synth-pop, blending melodic pop songwriting with electronic textures, sequencers, and orchestral timbres.

During the early 1980s, OMD released Architecture & Morality (1981), an album noted for its rich, melodic synth arrangements. The follow-up Dazzle Ships (1983) pursued more experimental ideas. The 1986 track If You Leave, written for the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, became an international hit and is one of the band's best-known songs.

After a period of hiatus and lineup changes, the group reformed in the 2000s and continued to release material and tour. Notable later releases include History of Modern (2010) and English Electric (2013), illustrating a continued presence in the electronic-pop field.
