Olimpic is a variant spelling that appears in some English texts as a misspelling of Olympic, or as a proper name in brand or local contexts. The standard English form is Olympic, used as both an adjective and a noun to refer to the Olympic Games and things associated with them.

Etymology and usage: The root derives from Greek Olympios, relating to Mount Olympus, the mythic home of the Olympic gods. The modern term Olympic developed with the revival of the Olympic Games in the 19th century. In many languages, cognate forms exist (for example forms derived from Olymp-), while English uses Olympic.

Modern Games: The Olympic Games are an international multi-sport competition organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). They occur in Summer and Winter editions every four years, offset by two years. The Games bring together athletes from National Olympic Committees, follow the Olympic Charter, and feature the opening ceremony, the Olympic flag and rings symbol, and the motto Citius, Altius, Fortius. Host cities are chosen through a bidding process, and events are broadcast worldwide.

Olympic movement: Beyond the Games, the Olympic Movement includes education, culture, and sport development aimed at promoting ethical standards, fair play, and youth participation. The term olympic may appear in brand names, product lines, or local designations that invoke the spirit or branding of the Olympic tradition but does not itself denote a governing body.
