Oktavfilters, also known as octave filters or sub-octave generators, are a type of audio effect pedal commonly used by guitarists and bassists. These devices produce a lower octave version of the input signal, often with a blend control to mix the original sound with the octave-down effect. The resulting sound can range from a subtle thickening of the tone to a heavy, bass-heavy effect.

The core technology behind most Oktavfilters involves frequency division. When an incoming audio signal is detected, the circuit divides its frequency by two, effectively creating a sound that is one octave lower.
