The operation of neutron reactors involves several critical steps. Fuel rods containing fissile material are placed in the reactor core, where they are bombarded with neutrons. The fission process releases energy in the form of heat, which is then used to produce steam. This steam drives a turbine connected to a generator, producing electricity. The spent fuel, which is no longer capable of sustaining a chain reaction, is removed from the core and stored in cooling pools or, in some cases, reprocessed for further use.
