Noncompetitive is an adjective used to describe conditions, activities, or arrangements that do not involve competition or that are not intended to compete. The term can apply to markets, processes, or behaviors where rivalry is minimized or purposefully set aside.

In economics and public policy, a noncompetitive market or industry refers to one with restricted competition due to barriers to entry, market power, or regulation. Monopolies, oligopolies, or heavily regulated utilities often exhibit noncompetitive characteristics, which can lead to higher prices, reduced innovation, and allocative inefficiency. Policy debates about deregulation, antitrust enforcement, and market liberalization frequently address noncompetitive dynamics.

In biochemistry, noncompetitive inhibition describes a mode of enzyme inhibition in which an inhibitor binds to a site other than the active site, causing a conformational change that lowers the maximum reaction rate (Vmax) without altering the substrate concentration required for half-maximum velocity (Km). This contrasts with competitive inhibition, where the inhibitor competes with the substrate for the active site and Km changes while Vmax remains constant. Noncompetitive inhibition can be reversible or irreversible depending on the system and inhibitor.

In sports and organized events, a noncompetitive format emphasizes participation or personal bests rather than head-to-head competition. Noncompetitive races, games, or activities may allow participants of varying abilities to complete the course or compete for time records, typically in charity fundraisers or inclusive programming.

Less commonly, "noncompetitive" is used to describe products, markets, or contracts that are not designed to foster competition, or as a counterpart to "noncompete" agreements where competition is restricted in employment or business arrangements. The term is more frequently encountered in scientific contexts (notably enzymology) and policy discussions than in everyday language.
