Neutronit is a hypothetical form of ultra-dense matter imagined to consist predominantly of neutrons arranged in a lattice-like structure. The term blends neutron with the suffix -ite, a convention used for minerals and materials, but neutronit is not an established substance in real-world physics. It appears mainly in speculative discussions and science fiction as a way to explore the properties of matter at extreme densities beyond ordinary materials.

In theoretical discussions, neutronit is often associated with neutron-degenerate matter found in neutron stars, but described as a more ordered or synthetically bounded form that might exist under controlled, albeit extreme, conditions. The concept serves as a tool for examining how matter behaves when neutrons are packed at nuclear densities, where quantum degeneracy and strong nuclear interactions dominate.

Properties typically attributed to neutronit in thought experiments include extremely high density, on the order of nuclear density, and near-neutral charge. Thermal and transport properties are highly uncertain, and any realistic model must contend with neutron-rich beta equilibrium, strong interaction effects, and the lack of stable bulk matter at ordinary temperatures and pressures. In isolation, free neutrons decay with a half-life of about 14 minutes, so a pure bulk sample would be transient on Earth unless stabilized by surrounding conditions that are not realized in practice.

Production and occurrence are speculative. Natural formation might be imagined in extreme astrophysical environments, such as the interiors of neutron stars, while laboratory creation remains beyond current capabilities and would be short-lived if attempted. As a theoretical construct, neutronit is used to probe equations of state and the behavior of matter at extreme densities rather than to describe an experimentally realized material.
