neuroneja
Neuroneja (Finnish plural of neuron) are the basic cells of the nervous system, specialized to receive, process, and transmit information. They form complex networks that underlie sensation, movement, thought, and behavior. A typical neurone consists of a cell body (soma), multiple dendrites that receive signals, and a single long axon that conducts electrical impulses away from the cell. The axon may be insulated by a myelin sheath, which speeds transmission through saltatory conduction. At the end of the axon are synaptic terminals, where neurotransmitters are released to communicate with other neurones, muscle cells, or glands.
Communication within neural networks begins with an action potential, a rapid change in electrical charge that
Neurones are broadly categorized into sensory (afferent), motor (efferent), and interneurones, depending on their role in
Neurones are distributed throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems. They develop from neural progenitor cells
