Nasofaryngoskopi is a medical procedure used to examine the nasal cavity, pharynx, and larynx. It involves the insertion of a flexible or rigid endoscope, a thin, lighted tube with a camera, through the nostril. The endoscope then travels down into the nasopharynx, the upper part of the throat behind the nose, and can extend further to visualize the oropharynx (middle part of the throat) and laryngopharynx (lower part of the throat).

This diagnostic tool allows physicians to directly observe the structures and tissues in these areas, which are difficult to see with standard examination methods. Indications for nasofaryngoskopi include investigating symptoms such as persistent nasal congestion, frequent nosebleeds, difficulty breathing through the nose, chronic sore throat, hoarseness, and unexplained ear pain or pressure. It can also be used to assess for conditions like nasal polyps, tumors, infections, inflammation, enlarged adenoids, or vocal cord abnormalities.

The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting and is generally well-tolerated. Local anesthetic spray or gel is often applied to the nasal passage to numb the area and minimize discomfort. Sedation may be offered in some cases. The examination usually takes a few minutes. Following the procedure, patients may experience minor nasal irritation or a sore throat, which typically subsides quickly. The images or video captured by the endoscope provide valuable information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
