They feed a nail from a magazine and propel it into the workpiece with a controlled strike, allowing faster, more consistent fastening.

They are used in a range of applications such as framing and sheathing, roofing, cabinetry, finish carpentry, and trim work. Some specialized models also fire staples or use different fastener systems.

Nails and magazines vary by tool: nails come in different lengths, diameters, and head styles and are supplied in strips or coils that suit the magazine. Nailers are distinguished by the angle of their collated fasteners (for example, framing, finish, brad, and pin types) and by the type of fastener they accept. Choosing the appropriate nail and magazine setup depends on the workpiece material and the desired finish.

Operation and safety basics: most naulaimet fire a nail only when the contact tip is pressed against the workpiece and the trigger is activated (with some models offering sequential or contact firing). Depth adjustment controls how far the nail is driven. Users should wear eye protection, keep fingers away from the trigger and nose, disconnect power when loading or clearing jams, and be cautious of hidden utilities inside the workpiece.

Maintenance: keep the tool clean, lubricate pneumatic models, drain moisture from compressors, replace worn parts, and regular-check for jams and air or battery performance. Proper storage and handling reduce the risk of accidental discharge.
