Muskalutseenden is a term used to describe the visual characteristics and physical appearance of a muskox. These Arctic mammals are known for their distinctive and highly adapted features that enable them to survive in harsh, cold environments. The most prominent feature is their thick, shaggy coat, which consists of two layers. The outer layer is made of long, coarse guard hairs that shed water and snow, while the inner layer, called qiviut, is an exceptionally fine and warm wool. This dense fur provides excellent insulation against extreme temperatures.

Muskoxen have a robust and stocky build, with short legs and a humped shoulder, which contributes to their powerful appearance. Their heads are large and broad, with a characteristic downward curve of their horns. Both males and females possess horns, though the males' horns are typically thicker and more massive, forming a protective casque over their skulls. Their faces are often partially obscured by their long fur. Their overall silhouette is squat and imposing, blending effectively with the tundra landscape. The color of their coat is typically dark brown, sometimes with lighter patches on their sides or legs. This coloration aids in camouflage against the dark soil and snow of their habitat.
