mucoasei
Mucoasei is the Romanian term for the mucous membrane, the moist tissue lining many body cavities and passages that communicate with the exterior. These membranes cover surfaces of the digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive tracts, as well as the conjunctiva of the eye in some contexts. A mucous membrane generally consists of an epithelial layer supported by a underlying connective tissue called the lamina propria; in some regions a thin muscular layer, the muscularis mucosae, lies beneath. The epithelium varies by site, ranging from stratified squamous in the mouth and esophagus to simple columnar in much of the intestine, with goblet cells and, in the respiratory tract, ciliated cells that help move mucus.
Functions of the mucoasei include protection and moisture. The mucus produced by goblet cells lubricates surfaces,
Regional specialization is evident: respiratory mucosa typically features ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium with goblet cells; gastrointestinal
Clinical relevance includes mucosal injury and inflammation (for example, gastritis, enteritis, and mucositis from cancer therapies),
