Monoposto is a term used in Portuguese to describe a vehicle designed for a single occupant. In motorsport, it refers specifically to a single-seat racing car, usually of the open-wheel type, where the driver is the only person aboard and the chassis is built around a centralized cockpit and aerodynamic bodywork.

In racing, monopostos are the standard format for many prominent championships, including Formula One, Formula 2, Formula 3, and various national series. The design emphasizes lightweight construction, downforce, and precise handling, with most modern cars adopting a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a mid-engine layout, and sophisticated aerodynamic elements. Safety features common to contemporary monopostos include an integrated safety cell, rollover protection, extensive harnessing, the HANS device, and, in many series, devices like the Halo for head protection.

Outside of automotive racing, the term also appears in aviation and other areas to describe aircraft or craft built for a single occupant. A monoposto aircraft is designed for one pilot, though some trainer or aerobatic models may have variations in seating arrangements. In these contexts, the designation distinguishes from two-seat or multi-seat aircraft used for training, passenger transport, or cargo missions.
