Monitorova is a fictional city-state in the highlands of Eldara, on the northern continent. It is depicted as a compact urban polity with a long tradition of record-keeping and border observation.

The name derives from the Slavic root monitor-, meaning "to watch," reflecting its historic role as a frontier post and information hub.

Founded as a fortified outpost in the 12th century to monitor mountain passes, Monitorova later gained self-rule and developed trade in textiles, ore, and manuscripts.

The city sits at 500–900 meters in a valley formed by the Vare and Lir rivers. It has a temperate climate and rugged surroundings that shape its architecture and street layout.

Monitorova operates a council-based system with an elected mayor and a City Assembly that enacts laws and budgets. The Archives Office and Public Safety Directorate are among its main institutions.

Its economy blends services and crafts with tourism. Key sectors include archival preservation, manuscript digitization, glasswork, and mountain trade.

Official languages are Monitorovian and Eldaran. Cultural life centers on the Great Archive, museums, and the annual Festival of Lanterns celebrating record-keeping and history.

Landmarks include the Watchtower of Atris, the Great Archive, and the Gate of Echoes, a ceremonial gateway at the southern edge of the old town. The River Bridge links the historic core with newer quarters.

The Institute of Archive and Information Studies trains conservators and researchers in manuscript preservation and digitalization.
