MomentumROM is a hypothetical non-volatile memory concept that combines the idea of momentum with a read-only memory (ROM) architecture. In proposed models, information is encoded in discrete momentum states of microscopic or nanoscale elements, such that each state corresponds to a bit pattern. The ROM content is fixed at fabrication or during an initialization phase, and readout relies on measuring the momentum-related property such as resonance frequency, phase, or angular momentum without altering the stored state.

Design principles include mapping data to a limited set of stable momentum states, maintaining these states with minimal energy loss, and using non-destructive sensing to retrieve data. The approach emphasizes energy efficiency during access, since no write operation is needed after initialization. Stability against thermal noise and damping is achieved through high quality factors in the mechanical or spintronic elements.

Implementation approaches vary. Some proposals use MEMS-based mechanical oscillators that carry momentum in a fixed direction, while others explore solid-state realizations in which momentum is embedded in spin, magnon, or phonon modes. Reading typically involves detecting changes in resonance, phase, or impedance that correlate with the encoded momentum state.

Critics note that momentum-based ROM faces significant challenges, including precise fabrication tolerances, long-term drift, limited density, and complex readout circuitry. As a result, MomentumROM remains primarily a theoretical or speculative concept discussed in research literature rather than a demonstrated commercial technology.
