mluvy

Mluv y is a constructed language (conlang) designed for use in speculative fiction and linguistic experimentation. It was developed by a community of conlangers beginning in the early 2010s to be approachable for learners while offering analytic features useful for studying language design. The name Mluv y derives from the Slavic root mluv- meaning “to speak” and a nominal suffix -y, chosen to evoke speech and discourse.

Phonology of Mluv y includes about 20 consonants and five vowels, with a relatively simple vowel inventory and predictable stress patterns that commonly fall on the penultimate syllable. The language favors syllable structures such as CV and CVC, with no tonal system.

Morphology and syntax are primarily analytic, with limited inflection. The basic word order for neutral statements is subject–verb–object. Nouns do not mark gender, and case is minimal, aided by a small set of postposed particles that indicate topic or object role. Verbs mark aspect and mood through affixes, while tense is expressed with separate particles. Plurality is conveyed by noun suffixes or by accompanying numerals; pronouns distinguish person and number but adopt a compact set.

Writing and orthography typically use a Latin-based script enhanced with diacritics for vowels; in some communities, a parallel Cyrillic transcription is used for study or display purposes.

Usage and reception: Mluv y serves as a teaching tool and a world-building resource, supported by a modest learner community. Available resources commonly include a short grammar sketch, a beginner dictionary, and sample texts. It is discussed within conlang circles as a model of balanced learnability and descriptive depth.
