ministrarna

Ministrarna is a term used in Swedish politics to refer collectively to the ministers who compose the government, or cabinet. In Sweden, the government (regeringen) is headed by the Prime Minister (statsminister) and consists of a number of ministers who head the various ministries, such as Finance, Foreign Affairs, Education, and Health.

Each minister is responsible for their portfolio, develops policy within its remit, proposes legislative measures to the Riksdag, and oversees the administration of the relevant government agencies. Ministers participate in cabinet meetings chaired by the Prime Minister, and decisions are usually taken on the basis of collective responsibility.

Ministers are appointed by the Prime Minister and generally come from among members of the Riksdag or, less commonly, from outside parliament. They serve at the confidence of the Riksdag and can be dismissed or resign; a change in government or a vote of no confidence may lead to a reshuffle or resignation.

Governance structure beyond the ministers includes the Government Offices (Regeringskansliet), which support the Prime Minister and the cabinet in policy formulation and administration. The cabinet sets overall government policy, while individual ministers are responsible for implementing laws and overseeing public agencies within their portfolios, in coordination with the parliament.

Terminology: In Swedish, the ministers are referred to as ministrar and the collective body as the cabinet or government; the plural form ministrarna is used in formal references to the group. The concept mirrors other parliamentary systems, where a cabinet of ministers carries collective responsibility for government policy.
