Minimumshastighet is the lowest speed at which an object, vehicle or mechanism may operate under given conditions. It is a concept used in physics, engineering and various forms of transportation to ensure safety, efficiency and stability. It is distinct from maximum speed and from speeds that are merely typical or preferred.

In road traffic, a minimum speed is sometimes legally defined for specific roads or lanes to prevent slow vehicles from impeding traffic. Drivers who travel significantly below the minimum without good reason may be penalized; in many places, slow driving rules are complemented by guidance such as keeping to the right and allowing overtaking. Minimum speeds are most common on high-capacity roads or in conditions where traffic flow is sensitive to disruptions.

In aviation, the term is closely related to the aircraft's stall speed—the minimum speed at which the aircraft can maintain level flight under specified configuration and weight. Flying below this speed risks loss of lift and uncontrolled descent. Pilots monitor indicated airspeed and must not fall below the minimum speed during critical phases of flight unless safety margins are extended through maneuvers or configuration changes.

In mechanical and engineering contexts, minimum speeds can be required to ensure lubrication, prevent vibration, or maintain stability in rotating equipment. Conversely, some systems are designed to operate efficiently only above certain speeds, defining a practical lower limit for performance.
