It states that if two particles are indistinguishable, then any physical operation performed on them that simply swaps their positions results in a state that is physically identical to the original state. This means that there is no way to tell which particle is which after such a swap.

This principle has profound implications. For instance, in classical physics, if you have two identical billiard balls, you can theoretically track each ball individually. However, in quantum mechanics, if you have two identical electrons, for example, you cannot assign a unique identity to each one. This indistinguishability is crucial for understanding the behavior of matter at the atomic and subatomic levels.

The mathematical consequence of megkülönböztethetetlenség depends on the type of particle.
