Megkülönböztethetetlenség is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics, particularly in relation to identical particles. It states that when two or more particles are identical, such as two electrons or two photons, it is impossible to distinguish them from one another. This means that if you were to swap two identical particles, the physical state of the system would remain unchanged and indistinguishable from its original state.

This principle has profound implications for the behavior of matter and energy. For bosons, which are particles that obey Bose-Einstein statistics, the wave function describing a system of identical bosons is symmetric under the exchange of any two particles. This symmetry leads to phenomena like Bose-Einstein condensation, where a large number of bosons occupy the same lowest quantum state at very low temperatures.

For fermions, which follow Fermi-Dirac statistics, the wave function is antisymmetric under particle exchange. This antisymmetry is the basis of the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that no two identical fermions can occupy the same quantum state simultaneously. This principle is crucial for the structure of atoms and the stability of matter, as it dictates how electrons fill atomic orbitals. The concept of indistinguishability is not intuitive from classical physics, where objects are generally considered distinct and trackable.
