Megduplázás is a Hungarian term describing the act or result of making something twice as large, numerous, or extensive as before. It denotes a doubling of quantity, value, or magnitude and can refer to a process, a goal, or an outcome. The word combines meg-, a prefix indicating completion or intensification, with duplázás, from duplicating or doubling.

In finance and economics, megduplázás commonly describes turning an amount into twice its original value. An investment that grows from 1,000 to 2,000 currency units exemplifies megduplázás. The time needed to achieve doubling, the doubling time, is often estimated using the Rule of 72: t ≈ 72 / r, where r is the annual percentage return. This heuristic helps compare growth rates across different assets or strategies.

In population dynamics and natural growth, megduplázás refers to the doubling of a population size over a period, depending on the intrinsic growth rate. Higher growth rates shorten the doubling time, while limits such as resources and carrying capacity can slow or halt doubling.
