In Polish, matowy describes a surface or material that has a matte, non-reflective finish. The word appears in various forms depending on grammatical case; matowego is the genitive singular form used with masculine nouns, for example "kolor matowego odcienia" or "wykończenie matowego lakieru."

Matowy finishes are used to reduce glare, fingerprints, and reflections. They are common in interior design, paints and coatings, cameras and screens, phones and laptops, automotive finishes, and printed materials. In product descriptions, matowy signals subdued, understated aesthetics compared with połyskowy (glossy) or satynowy (satin).

Practical considerations: matte surfaces hide minor scratches better than glossy ones but can show dust and micro-scratches more readily and may appear duller in bright light. In photography or printing, matte surfaces reduce specular highlights but may yield less vivid color reproduction.
