Margsklerósi is a Finnish term that translates to multiple sclerosis (MS) in English. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. It is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin sheath, the protective covering around nerve fibers. This damage, called demyelination, disrupts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body.

The symptoms of MS can vary widely depending on the location and severity of the damage. Common symptoms include fatigue, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness, difficulty with coordination and balance, vision problems, and cognitive difficulties.
