Manuaalautomaatkäigukast, also known as an automated manual transmission (AMT) or semi-automatic transmission, is a type of gearbox that combines features of both manual and automatic transmissions. It essentially functions as a manual gearbox but with an automated clutch and gear shifting system. This means a driver does not need to operate a clutch pedal or manually shift gears themselves. Instead, electronic actuators and sensors control these functions.

The core of a manuaalautomaatkäigukast is a standard manual transmission. However, it is equipped with electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical systems that engage and disengage the clutch and select and shift gears. When the driver accelerates or decelerates, the system automatically determines the appropriate gear and executes the shift. Some AMTs offer the option for manual gear selection through paddle shifters or a sequential gear lever, allowing the driver some control over the shifting process.

They are also typically lighter and less complex to manufacture than full automatics. They are often found in smaller, more economical vehicles or in motorsport applications where weight and efficiency are priorities.
