majanduses

Majanduses is the Estonian inessive form of the noun majandus and is commonly used to mean "in the economy" or "within the economy." In economic writing, it introduces analyses of how markets, institutions and policies interact to allocate scarce resources. The term is used in relation to both national economies and smaller economic units such as regions or sectors.

The economy comprises the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. It can be studied at different levels: microeconomics focuses on individuals and firms, while macroeconomics examines aggregate indicators and policy. Sectors are often divided into primary, secondary and tertiary activities, and economic activity is influenced by factors such as technology, energy, labor, capital and institutions.

Economic indicators measure the size and health of an economy. Common measures include GDP, or sisemajanduse koguprodukt (SKP) in Estonian, which captures overall output; inflation and unemployment, and the balance of trade. Statistical agencies collect data to track business cycles and long-term trends. Policy debates in majanduses typically address growth, stability, employment and fairness.

Institutions such as the central bank, Eesti Pank, the Ministry of Finance, and regulatory authorities shape monetary and fiscal policy. Estonia's economy is characterized by openness, digitalization and integration with European and global markets. Since gaining independence, Estonia has pursued a market-based economy, joined the European Union in 2004 and adopted the euro in 2011. Challenges include productivity growth, aging demographics and ensuring sustainable public finances.
