A magnetoresonator is a device that exhibits a resonant response to an applied magnetic field. This resonance occurs when the frequency of the applied magnetic field matches a natural frequency of the material or structure within the magnetoresonator. The phenomenon is closely related to magnetic resonance techniques, such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron spin resonance (ESR), but often refers to a broader class of devices where magnetic fields induce oscillations or amplify signals at specific frequencies.

The behavior of a magnetoresonator depends on the magnetic properties of its constituent materials. Typically, these materials are ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic, possessing magnetic moments that can align and precess. When an external oscillating magnetic field is applied, it can drive these magnetic moments into oscillation. If the frequency of the external field matches the precessional frequency of the magnetic moments, energy is absorbed efficiently, leading to a sharp increase in signal or a change in impedance. This resonant behavior can be sensitive to external factors, including the strength and direction of static magnetic fields, temperature, and strain, making magnetoresonators useful for sensing applications.

Magnetoresonators are employed in various technologies. They are fundamental components in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, where they help detect and differentiate tissues based on their magnetic properties. They also find use in magnetic sensors for detecting small magnetic field variations, in radio frequency (RF) filters and oscillators for telecommunications, and in research for studying the fundamental magnetic properties of materials. The design of a magnetoresonator can vary widely, from simple coil-inductor circuits incorporating magnetic cores to complex micro- or nano-structured magnetic materials.
