By allowing fault currents to flow directly to the ground, the system ensures that protective devices such as circuit breakers or fuses trip quickly, interrupting dangerous currents. Ground conductor length is limited by the resistance requirement, usually not exceeding 100 ohms for special equipment or 200 ohms for general installations.
