Längdändringen, often translated as "length change" or "elongation," refers to the alteration in the physical dimension of an object along its longest axis. This phenomenon is commonly observed in materials subjected to various physical stimuli.

One primary cause of längdändringen is thermal expansion. When a material's temperature increases, its constituent atoms or molecules vibrate more vigorously, leading to an overall increase in volume and thus length. Conversely, a decrease in temperature causes thermal contraction, where the object shortens. The extent of this change is governed by the material's coefficient of thermal expansion.
