luent

luent is a constructed international auxiliary language created by a collaborative online community. Designed to be easy to learn for speakers of diverse language backgrounds, luent emphasizes regular grammar, a small phoneme inventory, and a vocabulary built from widely recognizable roots to support rapid literacy and communication.

Origin and development: luent emerged in online forums in the early 2010s as part of a broader movement to explore simplified international languages. The project emphasizes openness, with specifications and learning materials published openly on community repositories. Ongoing updates by volunteers aim to reduce learners' difficulties and extend coverage for technical terms and contemporary concepts.

Phonology and grammar: The language features a largely phonemic Latin-based script with about 25 possible phonemes. Stress is predictable, typically on the penultimate syllable. Grammar is analytic and highly regular: there are no irregular verb conjugations, nouns have minimal inflection, and word order is primarily subject–verb–object but allows flexible arrangement for emphasis. Tense, aspect, and mood are indicated by standalone particles and periphrastic phrases rather than verb morphology. Pronouns are gender-neutral, and definiteness is marked by a simple article system.

Lexicon and script: Core vocabulary is built from internationally familiar roots with affixes to derive related terms. The writing system uses the Latin alphabet with optional diacritics for vowel quality and stress.

Usage and status: luent occupies a niche position in hobbyist linguistics, tabletop gaming, and language-learning communities. It has not achieved broad international adoption and competes with older planned languages. Critics cite limited resources, uneven documentation, and questions about practicality.
