linier

Linier is an adjective used in Indonesian and Malay to describe things that relate to or are arranged along a straight line, or to indicate a proportional, straight-ordered progression. The term derives from Latin linearis, via English linear, and is commonly translated as linear in many technical contexts.

In mathematics and geometry, linier describes relationships that follow a straight-line rule. A linear function has constant rate of change; a linear equation is of the form ax + b = 0, or more generally a system of linear equations. Linear algebra studies linear transformations, vectors, and matrices, where operations preserve addition and scalar multiplication. Concepts such as linear independence, basis, and dimension are central to this field, and linear models underpin many computational and scientific methods.

In physics and engineering, linier ideas appear in linear motion (movement along a straight line) and linear approximations. Linear momentum, p = mv, is a fundamental concept in classical mechanics, and many material responses are modeled as linear within certain limits (for example, Hooke’s law for elastic springs).

In computer science, a linear approach often refers to sequential or single-pass methods. Linear time algorithms, O(n), process input with a single pass, while linear data structures store elements in a simple, ordered sequence.

Linier contrasts with nonlinear, where relationships or processes do not adhere to a straight-line rule. The term is widely used across science, engineering, and everyday language to denote straightness, proportionality, or straightforward progression.
