Lighttabletop refers to a flat, illuminated work surface used to illuminate materials from below to aid viewing, tracing, and alignment. The tabletop surface is typically made of translucent glass or acrylic, with a diffuse light source beneath to provide even, transmitted illumination.

Most lighttabletops employ LED panels, edge lighting, or backlit panels with a diffusion layer to minimize hotspots. Features commonly include adjustable brightness, occasional color-temperature control, and non-glare surfaces. They come in sizes from compact A4 to large studio formats, and in portable, plug-in or battery-powered variants. Some models offer tilt adjustment, integrated rulers, or built-in storage.

Uses include drawing and tracing, animation preproduction, layout and graphic design, architectural drafting, and archival work such as viewing papers or films. They can also assist in photography workflows that require transparency or backlighting of slides and negatives.

History: Early light tables used incandescent lamps and thick glass; modern lighttabletops favor LED technology for energy efficiency and longer life. The terms light table, lightbox, and light table top are sometimes used interchangeably, though a light table traditionally denotes a larger, desk-like illuminated surface, while a lightbox is often a portable enclosure.
