Liedtekst is the textual content of a song, the words that are sung. In Dutch and Norwegian usage the term refers to the complete worded lyrics, separate from the musical notation. The liedtekst can be analyzed for themes, meter, rhyme, and imagery and is often published together with the music in liner notes or on lyric sheets.

Typical structure includes verses, a chorus or refrain, and sometimes a bridge or pre-chorus. The lyric arrangement interacts with melody but is not itself a musical score. Transliteration or translation may alter meaning or rhythm, and in some cases regional or language-specific versions of a lyric exist.

Publication and access: Liedtekst is widely distributed as printed lyrics, lyric videos, or online lyric databases. Authors often publish official lyrics; publishers may require permissions to reproduce lyrics beyond brief quotations. Singers rely on the text for interpretation and performance, and lyric accuracy is important for conveying the intended meaning.

Copyright and rights: Lyrics are generally protected as literary works. Rights holders control reproduction, adaptation, and public performance of the words. In many countries fair use or fair dealing exceptions may permit limited quotation, but full publication of lyrics usually requires authorization. Variations or censored versions may exist in different markets or editions.
