Leverandørlås, commonly referred to as a lever lock, is a type of mechanical lock that uses a series of sliding levers to control the movement of a bolt. Each lever has a notch or gate, and the correct key lifts certain levers to the proper height so that the levers align along the shear line. When the alignment is correct, the bolt can retract and the lock opens. The number of active levers (for example five, seven, or more) contributes to the lock’s resistance to unauthorized opening.

Historically, lever locks date back to early modern Europe and were widely used in safes, bank vaults, strongroom doors, and secure furniture before pin-tumbler and other modern mechanisms became dominant. Famous lockmakers, including those in the Chubb tradition, contributed to the development and refinement of lever-based security. In contemporary use, lever locks appear in high-security doors and certain padlocks, often in five- or seven-lever configurations. Modern variants may incorporate hardened materials and additional protection features to reduce vulnerability to drilling or manipulation.

Security considerations for lever locks note that, while robust in many applications, they are not immune to bypass methods known to experienced locksmiths. Design improvements and high-security variants address common attack vectors by increasing lever strength, adding false gates, or employing special keying schemes. Lever locks remain of historical importance and still see use in some institutional, archival, and antique contexts, as well as in certain high-security applications where traditional mechanisms are preferred.
