Ledflate is a term used in the lighting and display industry to denote a flat surface composed of light-emitting diodes arranged in a planar array. The word is derived from the Norwegian word for surface or plane (flate) and the acronym LED, reflecting its use as a slim, uniform light source. In practice, ledflate designs can refer to LED panels, LED backlighting surfaces, or modular LED arrays intended to form a continuous light-emitting plane.

A typical ledflate construction combines a substrate, such as aluminum or a printed circuit board, with an array of LED chips, a diffusion or micro-lens layer to homogenize brightness, and often a protective cover. The arrangement aims to produce a broad, even luminance over a relatively large area. Thermal management is a key design consideration, as effective heat spreading maintains light output and color stability. Depending on the application, ledflate panels may be driven as constant-current sources and configured to deliver specific color temperatures, color rendering indices, or tunable white light. Modules are frequently designed to be modular or scalable to fit different sizes and shapes.
