LaserJet is a line of laser printers produced by Hewlett-Packard (HP). Introduced in 1984, the LaserJet range helped bring high-quality laser printing to offices and workgroups. The name has become closely associated with HP’s laser-printer technology, though it remains a brand designation rather than a generic term.

Most LaserJet printers use electrophotographic printing. A laser diode or LED writes an image onto a photosensitive drum, charging it so that toner particles adhere to the intended areas. The toner is then transferred to paper and fused with heat and pressure in a fuser unit, producing a durable, smudge-resistant page. The process allows sharp text and reliable graphics, with consistency across large print runs.

LaserJet models are available in monochrome and color variants. Resolution is typically described in dots per inch (dpi), with business-class devices offering effective resolutions around 600–1200 dpi and higher-end units delivering improved color and graphics performance. Printing speeds span from tens to hundreds of pages per minute depending on the model. Modern devices commonly include USB, Ethernet, and wireless connectivity, and support page description languages such as PCL and PostScript.

In office use, LaserJet printers are valued for fast, predictable output and relatively low long-term costs for high-volume printing. Color models enable graphics and color reports, while features such as duplex printing and energy-saving modes reduce paper use and power consumption. Over the years, HP’s LaserJet line has remained a core product, expanding to include enterprise-class color printers and related technologies.
