Laminations refer to objects composed of multiple layers bonded together to form a single material with enhanced properties. The layers may be wood, metal, glass, or composite sheets, and lamination can produce improved strength, stability, or functional behavior such as reduced electrical losses or improved impact resistance.

Magnetic laminations are thin ferromagnetic sheets, often silicon steel, insulated from one another to reduce eddy currents. This laminated structure lowers core losses in transformers, motors, and inductors.

Structural laminations include plywood and cross-laminated timber (CLT). Plywood layers of veneer with alternating grain directions; CLT uses cross layers to form large panels. Laminated woods offer high strength and dimensional stability.

Laminated glass consists of glass layers bonded with interlayers such as PVB, which hold shards together when broken and provide safety. Interlayers may also improve acoustics and solar control.

Laminated composites combine fibers in resin, stacked with controlled orientation to tailor stiffness, strength, and weight. Used in aerospace, automotive, and sporting goods.

Manufacturing involves stacking layers, applying adhesive or resin, and curing under heat and pressure. Quality concerns include delamination, voids, and moisture sensitivity.
