Lamentre is a ceremonial lament tradition described in ethnomusicological literature as a genre practiced by the fictional Eldoran culture. The term was coined by ethnomusicologist Mara Kline in 2010 to describe this ritual practice, which appears during funerary rites, memorial assemblies, and other communal ceremonies.

Performance centers on a lead singer who sustains a long lament over a modal melodic frame, while a chorus provides short refrains in response. Instrumentally, a frame drum marks rhythm and a reed flute provides interwoven timbres; the timbral balance is considered essential to the emotional contour of lamentre.

The typical structure includes an invocation, the opening lament, several cycles of refrains, instrumental interludes, and a closing blessing or remembrance. The tempo is generally moderate to slow, with elongated vowels and decorative melodic ornaments.

Regional variants exist within Eldoran communities. In the southern region, lamentre tends to feature extended solo passages and slower tempos; northern variants emphasize call-and-response between lead and chorus and faster, shorter phrases. Some communities also incorporate burial chants or epitaphs within the lament.

Cultural significance: lamentre functions as a communal mechanism for expressing grief, stabilizing collective memory, and marking transitions. Contemporary performances may occur in formal ceremonies or public commemorations and can be studied for their social and ritual contexts.
