Kül platyfish (Xiphophorus maculatus) are a popular freshwater aquarium fish native to Mexico and Guatemala. They are known for their vibrant coloration and live-bearing reproduction, meaning they give birth to live fry rather than laying eggs. This makes them a relatively easy fish for beginners to breed.

There are many different color varieties of platyfish, including red, orange, yellow, blue, black, and combinations thereof. Their fins can also vary in shape and size, with common types including the standard fin, lyre tail, and sword tail. Platies are omnivores and will readily accept a variety of flake foods, pellets, and frozen or live options.

Platies are peaceful and social fish that do well in community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive species. They prefer well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding places and stable water parameters. The ideal temperature range for platies is between 72-78°F (22-26°C), with a pH of 7.0-8.0. Due to their prolific breeding, it is often recommended to keep an equal or greater number of females to males to prevent males from harassing females excessively. They are hardy fish that can adapt to a range of water conditions but thrive best in stable environments.
