Kézvonallak, often referred to as palm lines or palmistry lines, are the creases that appear on the palm of the hand. These lines are a natural part of human anatomy, formed by the folding and movement of the skin during fetal development and throughout life. While their physical presence is undeniable, the interpretation of these lines varies greatly across cultures and historical periods.

In palmistry, a practice that claims to divine personality traits and predict future events based on the lines and mounts of the hand, kézvonalak are believed to hold significant meaning. The most commonly recognized lines include the heart line, which is thought to reflect emotional state and relationships; the head line, believed to indicate intellectual capacity and thinking patterns; and the life line, which is often associated with vitality and major life events. Other lines, such as the fate line or sun line, are also analyzed in this context.

Scientific perspectives, however, do not support the claims of palmistry. Dermatologists explain that palm lines are a result of the thickening of the epidermis and dermis in areas subject to repeated stress and movement. These lines provide grip and allow the skin to bend and flex without tearing. The patterns are unique to each individual, influenced by genetics and environmental factors. Despite the lack of scientific validation for their divinatory purpose, kézvonalak remain a subject of popular interest and cultural fascination.
