Képelemek is a Hungarian term referring to the fundamental components that constitute an image. In art, photography, cinema, and design, képelemek are the basic building blocks used to analyze, describe, and create visual representations. Common elements include line, shape, color, value (tone), texture, and space, with form and perspective often added when discussing three-dimensional depiction. For moving images, motion, rhythm, and pacing are considered elements, alongside composition and framing.

Each element has specific perceptual or communicative functions. Line can guide the viewer’s eye, shape and form establish structure, color conveys mood and meaning, value provides contrast and readability, texture suggests surface quality, and space creates depth. The arrangement of these elements—the composition—determines how effectively a visual message is communicated and how the image is perceived.

Disciplines emphasize different aspects. Painting may focus on color and brushwork; photography on light, contrast, texture, and framing; graphic design on typography, hierarchy, and clarity; film and video on framing, movement, and editing. The term képelemek thus serves as an umbrella for the visual toolkit used to read, teach, and produce images.

In contemporary practice, digital tools enable manipulation and analysis of képelemek through image processing, computer vision, and design software, while underlying principles of perception and composition remain central.
