It refers to a type of malevolent spirit or entity believed to inhabit natural places, particularly dense forests and dark ravines. These spirits are often depicted as shapeshifters, capable of appearing in various forms, including animalistic figures or even as unsettling humanoids. Their primary motivation is seen as being mischievous or outright harmful towards humans who venture into their domain unprepared or with disrespectful intentions.

Folklore suggests that Kähteen are particularly active during twilight hours and at night. They are said to lure travelers off established paths, leading them into dangerous terrain or causing them to become hopelessly lost.
