Kyltransporter is a term used for refrigerated transport vehicles that are designed to move temperature-sensitive goods while maintaining a controlled interior environment. They are widely used in food distribution, pharmaceutical logistics, and other sectors that require a preserved cold chain.

A kyltransporter combines an insulated cargo space with a refrigeration unit and temperature control systems. The refrigeration unit can be powered by the vehicle’s engine (self-powered) or by an external generator. Modern systems use environmental sensors and data loggers to monitor and record temperatures during transit. Refrigerants vary by system and may include traditional hydrofluorocarbons as well as newer low-GWP options. Many vehicles support multiple temperature zones, enabling different goods to be kept at distinct setpoints within the same unit.

Common configurations include rigid refrigerated trucks and semi-trailers with insulated bodies. Within these, operators can have single-zone layouts for uniform temperatures or multi-zone layouts with separate compartments or shelves for different products. Features such as bulkhead insulation, seal integrity, and energy-efficient door systems are emphasized to minimize heat gain and fuel use.

Operation and regulation focus on maintaining product safety and traceability. Temperature data logging, calibration of sensors, and adherence to HACCP or equivalent food safety frameworks are typical requirements. Regulation varies by country and industry, but there is a general emphasis on documented temperature histories, reliable cooling performance, and safe handling during loading, transport, and unloading.
