Key concepts include the CIA triad—confidentiality, integrity, and availability—along with authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure software development. Effective kyberturvallisuus relies on layered defenses, regular patching, vulnerability management, access control, backup and recovery planning, and rapid incident response. People, process, and technology are all essential components, and security is strengthened by clear policies, training, and governance.

Many countries develop national cyber security strategies and appoint dedicated authorities to coordinate resilience, critical infrastructure protection, and public awareness.
